Ideas for Decorating Your Christmas Table

The best place for Christmas decorating ideas is at someone else's holiday party; you've probably been to one where the table decoration was stunning. Then, you got this bright idea of what your own dining room should look like this Christmas, but found out that it's not that easy to recreate the same ideas from memory.

Christmas table decorating can be relatively easy, though, if you break it down to your audience. Will your gathering be friends and relatives? Adults only? Or, just your own family?

Christmas Table Decorating for Kids

A fun and festive Christmas table decoration idea for children, is to let them decorate a paper tablecloth. They can cut up Christmas cards, create paper snowflakes, and use sharpies or crayons. Attach the pictures and cut-outs to the tablecloth with glue sticks, and draw Christmas trees and gingerbread men right on the paper; your kids will be busy for hours.

Adorning your Table for Adult Guests

If you need a more mature look for Christmas, here are the 3 steps to an elegant table setting:

  1. Go to a florist and pick out a holiday floral arrangement, or you can be original and design one yourself. Pick a tablecloth with complementary colors.
  2. Tall white candles will make the table, and room, more elegant. Surround the base of some appropriate candleholders with pine cones or garland for a festive appearance.
  3. If you have the space, and budget, purchase a gingerbread house. This is a great Christmas table decoration; they're not only pleasing to the eye, but smell nice as well. If you're into baking and crafts, make one yourself; here's how:

To add some sparkle and shine to your Christmas decor, integrate some of the following into your Christmas table decorating:

  1. Create place cards with metal foil paper and attach shiny red or green bows.
  2. Hang some glittering ornaments from a nearby lamp shade or the chandelier above your table.
  3. Wrap strings of twinkling lights around your centerpiece. When done right, this can be quite stunning.

And don't forget the Christmas candy; these colorfully covered confections, such as, Hershey Kisses and others, make for some sweet Christmas table decorating. You could simply display some candy dishes or, place them individually around the centerpiece and candles, letting the shiny wrappers brighten up your table setting.

Regardless of how you decide to decorate your Christmas table, have fun with it, and consider who will see it; they're who it is for, after all.
