Rare Antique Christmas Decoration

Several years ago, while strolling through my local antique store, I discovered the most unique antique Christmas decoration that I have ever found. I like to visit antique stores as often as possible—mostly for browsing—occasionally to buy.

On rare occasions, I spot an item that I absolutely must own. This exquisite antique Christmas decoration happened to be one of those rare items. Since they were asking only twenty dollars for this antique holiday decoration, I grabbed the tiny angel and with a sense of satisfaction, took it home.

After delicately cleaning it up, I was impressed by a tiny angel sitting on the top of a gold ornament surrounded by intricate filigree. I deduced that, once upon a time, a small bell must have been inside the ornament but that had vanished at some time in the past. I found—after some relentless research—that she probably dated back to the early nineteen-hundreds. I was ecstatic. She was proudly placed on her place of honor on our family Christmas tree…the top.

Rare treasures like the antique Christmas decoration that I chanced across can occasionally be found in antique stores, or even at auctions. I've also secured some simple treasures browsing local flea markets. All you need is a little patience and some knowledge of what to look for. Obviously though, different people see different things in antiques. What I may think is exquisite, someone else may think is hideous. Eye of the beholder and all that. But, I suspected that I had found something rare and valuable in this particular angel antique Christmas decoration. After doing more diligent research, I discovered that it had an approximate value of one hundred-fifty dollars.

I'd been lucky enough to uncover an excellent antique Christmas decoration, and had obtained a real bargain in the process.

The desire that draws me to antique Christmas decorations is that of the elegance of bygone years. It seems to me that more time and craftsmanship was given to holiday decorations of many years ago. Folks took the time and effort to make these decorations by hand and to make each one unique.

Nowadays, everything is made in factories and everyone around the world has the exact same decoration. Back in the day, they didn't have the convenience of factories. Everything was hand made. With the antique Christmas decoration that I'd serendipitously secured, it was obvious that someone had put much time and energy into creating it. The etchings were perfect.

When finding such a treasured antique, it's like the memories and stories behind the item continue to live on. Take a little time to browse your local antique store. See if something catches your eye. Maybe you'll be fortunate enough to find an antique Christmas decoration like the one I had found, or…something even better.
