German Christmas decoration has had a profound influence on holiday decorating around the world. You can credit everything from the "invention" of the Christmas tree to the blown glass bulbs, to Deutschland (Germany). And the best of all German Christmas decorations? The gingerbread house.
Gingerbread houses have been around for many years, but this traditional holiday decoration is often forgotten about. Few folks use this German Christmas decoration anymore and this is a real shame. This decorative—and tasty—holiday treat can be tons of fun to create.
But, if it´s your first time, don´t try and make this edible German Christmas decoration on your own — you may find yourself in way over your head. You see, you´re going to have to design and measure the parts to your holiday home. This may be a bit too much for most folks to attempt. However, making a gingerbread house does not have to be as difficult as all that.
You can find several kits that allow you to work, more or less, from scratch but still have adequate guidance in making this most German of Christmas decorations for your family and guests to enjoy. You can find these kits at your local arts and crafts store and online as well. These gingerbread house kits are relatively inexpensive.
The degree of difficulty in the crafting of one of these delectable decorations depends on the actual kit that you decide upon. You´ll find kits that take a certain amount of time as well as patience, or you can find one that is relatively easy to build. Last year, I chose the easier one and I was fairly happy with the results.
Fairly happy is, of course, not extremely happy. It turns out that, the easier the project is to assemble, the less attractive it turns out to be. I am going to undertake a greater challenge next time I create this particular German Christmas decoration because I want to make a great impression with my holiday guests.
So this year, instead of choosing a simple kit I am going to use a more complex gingerbread house pattern. I´m willing to put in some extra effort and time to create an edible German Christmas decoration that is actually edible. Last year´s tasted more like a log house than a gingerbread house.
Once I get the more challenging kit conquered, I think I will be ready to attempt a bigger and better project. I eventually want to be able to create the ultimate edible German Christmas decoration — a gingerbread chalet.
