As children, my brother and I could hardly wait for the Christmas gift catalog to arrive in the mail. I remember always seeing at least one, though sometimes there would be more. I remember flipping though each and every page looking to see what we might want for Christmas, and we spent a lot of time doing so. My mother must not have cared, because she never mentioned a thing when we circled toys and folded the corners of very important pages. In actuality, we must have made shopping for gifts much easier for her.
The surprising thing is, that these catalogs just don't seem to come in the mail any more. And what's worse, I recently saw one in a department store, that you have to pay for. Being a repeat customer, I simply assumed that I would get a Christmas gift catalog from them in the mail, just like my mom did. Apparently, things have changed. If you want something like this nowadays, you'll probably have to pay for it. You can search for your favorite store’s website to see if you can sign up to receive one.
If you don't want to sign-up for anything, you can see how they have changed the Christmas gift catalog in a way that does reflect modern times. You can find the same -- mostly -- selection of clothing and toys on each store’s website. This is a good way to see what is available, and to allow your children to give you some ideas about what they might like to find under the tree. Although, personally, it's just not the same. There was just something exciting about that catalog and I always thought my children would do the same thing that my brother and I did.
However, I suppose there are benefits to having an online Christmas gift catalog. It does save trees and you don't have to worry about recycling them when the holidays are over. If you did get a large catalog from each store where you loved to shop, you could wind up with quite a heavy stack of them by the time the holidays are over. Now, if you really want one, some companies still print them, it might just be harder for you to get one in your mailbox this season.
