The best gift idea for your situation will, most likely, be different than other folk's. In fact, with all the running around, writing and sending out Christmas cards, and putting up your decorations, just getting some free time to consider your Christmas gift recipients is no small task. So, here are some of my past experiences to get you going…to come up with the best gift ideas for your friends and loved ones.
The first example that comes to mind is this; one of my brothers—that has a taste for beer, like I do—gave me a Homer Simpson T-shirt with a picture of him sitting on a case of beer, with a "thought bubble" over his head…full of suds. It was funny, we a had a great laugh and I still cherish it to this day. Maybe I'll have it framed, stains and all!
Best Gift Idea for Your Recipient
Your gift recipient might not have such a good sense of humor for a joke gift like the one mentioned above. However, the thinking is the same; consider your relationship with the person to whom you want to decide on the best Christmas gift idea. If it's a girlfriend, for example, earrings, her favorite perfume or a bracelet would all be good gift ideas.
Another approach is the mood your potential present recipients are in. In my next example, I was feeling a little down one holiday season after my van was stolen with my windsurf gear inside. Consequently, I received a thoughtful and clever gift; a Lego dune buggy with a little windsurfer on the roof. Even though I'm no longer a child—some might disagree—the little toy cheered me up. Eventually I got my van back…with the equipment still inside! As for the Lego windsurfer, I still have it—to remind me about the more important things in life.
Ideas are like the wind; sometimes it's calm (you have none) and sometimes it blowing like crazy (you have plenty). Slow down, take some time, and reflect on your relationships.
