Toy Shopping

It's rapidly approaching: that wondrous time. That time when children everywhere are beginning to create their Christmas lists. After all, their parents need to be up-to-date on the latest toys and gadgets. And, it just happens to be the time when stores intensely advertise their toys—to make sure that everyone knows that the toy shopping season has begun.

Some folks—like me, for example—don't enjoy this time. My son has started mentioning all the cool toys that are advertised on TV. Even though he can't quite write yet, he's making sure that I start a Christmas list for him.

So it's time. Toy shopping time. Smart parents will shop entirely online, while other parents will wait in long lines when a store announces that a new, popular toy is stocked on the shelves. Ever heard of Zhu Zhu Pets? I have some friends who begin their toy shopping right after the Halloween decorations are removed from the stores. Some of them are even done with their shopping by Thanksgiving time.

Toy Shopping the Hard Way

For the brick-and-mortar crew, shopping is a competitive sport. The ones that camp out on the sidewalk in snow, rain or wind to get their hands one of the popular toys that the store will have on the shelf for a limited time, know exactly what I'm talking about. The tenuous raillery that takes place during the long wait disappears the second the store open it's doors. Immediately, it's 'every man for himself' while people all race across the aisles for that elusive last toy on the shelf. That kind of toy shopping is a total nightmare…in my opinion.

Toy Shopping the Easy Way

If you can successfully secure the great deals on hot toys online, toy shopping becomes a breeze. This is how I shop for toys: the day after Thanksgiving—Black Friday—I sit in my favorite chair, wearing my PJs, and use my laptop to get all of my gifts delivered to my door. I can usually get the same deal that the 'store folks' are getting. And, I don't have to lug around heavy packages, fight for parking, spend way too much time in line or fear getting robbed.

So, when it comes to that time; the time my son starts adding items to his Christmas list when he watches TV or sees new toys in the store flyers, I can comfortably search for them online. Yes, this year I think I'll do all of my toy shopping online.
