Sparkling White Christmas Lights
My favorite time of year is Christmas time. I love holiday spirit and the many decorations that help us obtain it. I can't think of anything more serene and picturesque than going for a drive in the early twilight and seeing the houses brightly decorated with Christmas lights. I'm partial to white lights, as they look celestial, especially when there's snow on the ground.
In December, Christmas lights are an ideal introduction to the beauty of what the holidays are all about. Some of my favorite Christmas memories have to do with decorating the tree. It was my father's job to put the Christmas lights on the tree, although I got to help. I was always entertained, some years more so than others, especially if the lights were all tangled up. One Christmas in particular, my father had gotten the lights placed perfectly on the tree when my mother discovered that only half the lights were working. My poor father had to go over the entire string to check for burnt out bulbs. Finally, after an hour or so, he succeeded in his task and the white glow lit up the entire living room. I cozied up to the fireplace and stared at that brilliant tree for what must have been hours that night.
Ban Blinking Christmas Lights
These days, Christmas lights come in every color imaginable and everyone has their favorites. I'm not opposed to a variety of colors but those gaudy blinking lights drive me nuts. To what purpose do they serve? How is it possible to enjoy the beauty of the lights when your eyes don't have time to focus on their sparkling beauty for more than a second before they blink off and on…and so on. Stick to the constantly lit Christmas lights—you'll be doing yourselves a favor.
Concerning irritating decorating habits, what are people thinking when they haphazardly place their Christmas lights on bushes and trees with no regard for organization? By throwing the lights up in any old way, all that gets done is letting passers-by think the decorators were just plain lazy. Plan some time to expertly wrap the Christmas lights around those trees and bushes. You know that people will see your artwork, so if you care enough to decorate in the first place, do it right.
Romantic Christmas Lights
My husband and I got married a few weeks after Christmas. Our reception party was decorated with thousands of white Christmas lights. The dim surroundings and the sparkling white lights made for a romantic occasion. It set the mood perfectly and many of the guests commented on how pretty it was. Christmas lights can give anyplace a dreamier and more serene atmosphere. Regardless of the time of year, white Christmas lights can set the mood for tranquility and romance.
Just remember to organize your string of lights carefully when taking them off the trees and bushes to store them away for the season. Otherwise, you might be accompanying my father next year in struggling to untangle the mess. As I well know, its definitely worth a few extra moments to be orderly and tidy.
