When you don your decorating hat, are you especially competitive during Christmas? Do you have to keep up with the Jones'? Good luck with that. Some folks spend so much money on Christmas yard decorations and lighting, that it could become difficult to match—or better—them.
And, each year, it seems like my neighbors start decorating their yard earlier and earlier. The days of simply putting up lights along your eave and creating a snowman on the front lawn are over. These days, if you spend less than a week decorating, you're a slacker.
You're in luck, however, even if you don't have a lot of time. There is a real time saver when it comes to Christmas decorating. By utilizing animated Christmas yard decorations, you can have a fantastic display in no time at all.
I was first introduced to them a few years back when a neighbor of mine was concocting his Christmas light theme. I became curious when I saw him decorating his lawn with statuettes made out of wire. When I approached him and inquired about the bare looking ornaments, he asked me to be patient.
Rather than be seen as a braggart—I suppose—by attempting to explain to me what he was trying to achieve with the yard decorations, he wanted me to observe his finished creation instead of describing it to me.
Wow! What a difference a 'day' makes. Once nighttime fell upon our superb suburb, the visual was utterly sensational. His Christmas decoration, as it turns out, was actually a self-propelled animation of Santa Claus in his sleigh—driving all of his reindeer. They glided around the lawn while Santa cracked his whip to spur on the creatures as they jumped spiritedly on. Traditional meets hi-tech. It was, in fact, exactly what I wanted to do with my Christmas decor.
There are many styles and types of animated Christmas yard decorations. Besides the lit-up wire ones, you can find holiday figures that simply appear to move by the clever use of lighting. Or, you can get serious, like my friend that has a motorized carousel with reindeer jumping up and down and around. It even plays Christmas songs.
If you're going to do animated Christmas yard decorations this season, remember our motto: go big or go home.
